Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea Beginner Guide
Updated
In your first days of Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea, tame a free horse, buy a lamb, unlock the warp statues and upgrade your bag. The game holds your hand for the opening days and then lets go of it completely, and players say it gets harder right after. These tips come from launch-week players with 20 to 30 hours in the game.
Your first days, in order
| When | Do this |
|---|---|
| Days 1–2 | Follow the tutorial. It's on rails: cutscenes, a cow and a bird for your farm, first crops. |
| Day 3–4 | Tame a wild horse south of Bloomfield. Animals can be bought from day 3. |
| First week | Clear every quest in Bloomfield; most are quick fetch or craft jobs. Mine iron around Bloomfield. |
| When you have the gold | Buy a lamb (2,100G) for wool, and a cat for stamina. |
| After Bloomfield chapter 1 | Touch a map statue to unlock warping; take the bag upgrade quest. |
| Then | Head to Tidewind. The story opens up and you can tackle quests in any order. |
1. Tame a free horse on day 3
Don't spend 1,000G at the Animal Center. Go straight south from Bloomfield Village until you reach a lake; three wild horses graze on the other side.
- Hold the sneak button and walk up slowly so the herd doesn't bolt.
- Pet one horse (about one music note of friendship), then feed it a foraged mushroom or any food (about two more notes).
- Come back the next day and repeat. You need 4 notes to tame it, and you can only pet a wild animal once a day, so it takes two visits.
A horse saves the stamina you'd spend dashing, and makes it easy to ride past aggressive animals. More on mounts and pets in the animals guide.
2. Save stamina: it's your real limit
- Walking is free, but dashing uses stamina, the same stamina you need for farming and mining.
- Days are short, and you pass out at midnight until you find coffee, a campsite or the Wakeful buff.
- Get a cat. Petting it restores stamina, about every three hours. Feed it its favourite food and it goes hyper: heat and cold protection, extra stamina and Wakeful, which lets you stay up late.
- Carry cooked food. A cooked mushroom dish restores about three times what a raw mushroom does.
3. Unlock the warp statues early
There are two kinds of Harvest Goddess statue. Map statues reveal part of the map and become warp points. Challenge statues give Power Wisps (see below). Warping is unlocked once you've finished the first Bloomfield chapter and touched a map statue; one player had found seven by then. After that you can warp between every map statue you've found, and it uses no in-game time.
Each village has its own farm, and crops need watering daily, so warps are what make several farms manageable. Warps don't drop you on the farm itself; later you unlock a way to travel straight to a farm while moving your house with you.
4. Triple your bag as soon as you can
You start with 10 slots per category, which fills up after one trip. After the first Bloomfield chapter you get the bag upgrade quest: 1 fabric and 2 iron. Fabric takes 4 wool, so buy a lamb early (it has to grow before it gives wool). Iron ore is around Bloomfield. The upgrade takes you to 30 slots per category.
5. Handle aggressive wild animals
Wolves, bears and other wild animals don't hit you. Being near an angry one slows you down and drains your stamina, and if it runs out you pass out, lose most of what you're carrying and pay a 500G rescue fee. To calm one:
- Take some food out and drop it on the ground.
- Pet the animal while it eats. That calms it and counts towards taming it.
- Move on quickly: if you cross paths again you'll have to repeat it.
On a horse you can usually ride past. A dog companion protects you, and reviving a region's spirit tree calms the animals there for good.
6. Feed animals the easy way
- Don't make feed from weeds. It takes 20 weeds for one feed. Any food you forage, like a mushroom, counts as feeding an animal.
- Plant grass. Grass seeds need no watering and give two or three harvests, and grass makes feed. A sprite on your farm (below the ledge you can jump off) gives three free grass seeds every 3 days.
- Let animals graze first, then clean the barn, or they eat the feed you just put out.
- Pet and feed every day: animal hearts max out within a few days, and maxed animals give the best products.
7. Farming rules that catch people out
- Animals eat growing crops if they graze unfed and unfenced. They also improve the soil, so a fence is a trade-off.
- Rotate your fields. Planting the same field over and over lowers crop quality.
- Crops mutate. The same seed can grow into a variant depending on the village and season. A cabbage seed can give red cabbage or pepper cabbage.
- One farm per village. To use your shipping bin, kitchen or barn on another farm, you move your house there, which means another loading screen.
- Pumpkin seeds come from villagers' requests and, after Quarrytop's first chapter, Quarrytop's general store, so take requests that pay in seeds (more on pumpkins).

8. Collect Power Wisps as you go
There are 160 Power Wisps. Challenge statues ask for different things: light torches, water flowers, offer an item (one on the beach wants a sardine), take a photo of something (a symbol shows when the shot is right) or just find the statue. Some wisps flee if you run at them, so always sneak up. A spooked wisp won't be marked on your map, so mark it yourself.
Trade Power Wisp Fruits at the Goddess statue for skills such as more stamina or faster animal friendship. You can also trade three for an Ancient Gold Coin worth 8,800G (see the money guide).
9. Cooking and recipes
Cooking is a big part of the game, and the least explained. There are six cooking utensils, a dish can have up to four ingredients, and you only learn a recipe by cooking it once. The game rarely tells you what goes into a dish, which can block quests that ask for a specific meal (one reviewer got stuck on a jambalaya). Two things help: read the bookshelves in villagers' houses, which show a recipe each, and write down every combination that works. We keep a list of 50+ confirmed recipes by utensil.
10. Outfits and how to get them
You start in ranch clothes, and new outfits aren't sold in a clothes shop. They're crafted at each village's crafting shop, and the selection grows as you finish that village's chapters. Bloomfield's crafter has the most early on.
- Materials: outfits need fabric (4 wool make 1 fabric, so buy a lamb early) plus other items such as vegetables and flowers. One outfit is literally made of onions.
- Outfits do something. Some give environmental protection, such as walking comfortably in the snow around Quarrytop. That saves you from cooking warming food for every trip.
- They take a while. Reviewers called the extra outfits grindy and expensive, so most players wear the starting set for a long time. Each protagonist has four hairstyles at the start.
- Pre-order outfit: the Mooberry and Moonana Cow Packs include a retro-themed outfit for both main characters (which pack you get on each platform).
The story chapters
Each village has a guardian spirit and a spirit tree to revive. Steam's achievement for finishing the first Bloomfield chapter is held by far more players than the later ones, so expect the story to slow down after Bloomfield.
| Village | Season | Guardian spirit | The problem |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bloomfield Village | Spring | Lupo | Wolves roaming Wolf Hill keep villagers indoors |
| Tidewind Village | Summer | Nera | Storms stop the ferry and the fishing boats |
| Maplehill Town | Autumn | Merus | A feud between traditional and new music has drained the town |
| Quarrytop Village | Winter | Gorgan | Earthquakes around the mine |
Between villages there are interludes at the Harvest Goddess Glade and the Sand Sea. Festivals unlock through quests after you revive a village's spirit tree, about two per village, and the game doesn't tell you their dates, so take festival quests as soon as they appear.
Settings and other quick tips
- Raise the camera speed. The default is slow, which makes spotting animals in foliage hard.
- Look up and down. Vines and ladders are easy to miss. You can only jump down at ledges marked with a post or flag.
- Save before the mines. Some Switch 2 players had crashes there.
- PC players need a controller. There's no keyboard and mouse support at launch.
- Do every early Bloomfield quest. They're quick, they level up the village, and more items appear in shops as villages level up.

Frequently asked questions
How do you get a horse early in Echoes of Teradea?
Tame one for free. From about day 3, go south from Bloomfield Village to the lake: three wild horses graze on the far side. Crouch, sneak up, pet one and feed it any food, then come back the next day and do it again. Buying a horse at the Animal Center costs 1,000G.
How do you unlock fast travel in Echoes of Teradea?
Finish the first Bloomfield chapter, then touch a map-revealing Harvest Goddess statue out in the world. The Harvest Goddess then lets you warp between every map statue you've found, and warping doesn't use any in-game time.
How do you get a bigger bag in Echoes of Teradea?
After the first Bloomfield chapter you get the bag upgrade quest. You need 1 fabric (made from 4 wool, so buy a lamb) and 2 iron. It raises your bag from 10 to 30 slots per category.
What happens if you pass out in Echoes of Teradea?
You're rescued, pay a 500G fee, and lose most of the materials you were carrying. It happens when stamina runs out or at midnight, so carry food and head home or camp before the day ends.
How do you get new outfits in Echoes of Teradea?
Craft them at a village's crafting shop. Each shop adds outfits as you complete that village's chapters, and they need fabric (from sheep wool) plus items such as vegetables or flowers. Some outfits protect you from cold or heat.
Can you play Echoes of Teradea on PC with keyboard and mouse?
Not at launch. Reviewers on Steam report there's no keyboard and mouse support, so you need a controller. The Steam page lists full controller support.
