    Updated

Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea has 10 marriage candidates: bachelors Robert, Aaron, Bryce, Sergei, Hank, and bachelorettes Carol, Jane, Mara, Shirley, Lorelei. They live in four villages, so you meet them gradually as the story moves on. Here is who each one is, where to find them, and the catches, like Aaron's paid fishing spot and Carol and Robert depending on which character you play.

Each village is tied to a season and a story chapter. You start in Bloomfield, so Jane and your childhood friend come first. Tidewind, Maplehill and Quarrytop open up as you lift the mist:

    • Bloomfield Village (Spring): Carol, Jane, Robert
    • Tidewind Village (Summer): Mara, Aaron
    • Maplehill Town (Autumn): Shirley, Bryce, Sergei
    • Quarrytop Village (Winter): Lorelei, Hank

Carol or Robert? Your choice decides one candidate

At the start you pick between two protagonists, Robert and Carol. The one you don't pick becomes your childhood best friend in Bloomfield, and also a marriage candidate. Play as Robert and Carol is the bachelorette next door; play as Carol and Robert is the one. It's the friends-to-lovers option, and the candidate you'll know longest, because they're in the opening scenes.

    The five bachelorettes

    Carol · Bloomfield Village

Your childhood best friend. You grew up together in Bloomfield, and the question is whether the friendship becomes more.

Where to find Carol: Around Bloomfield from the very start; she is in the opening scenes. Only a candidate if you play as Robert. Carol and Robert are the two protagonists, and whichever one you don't pick becomes your childhood friend.

Gifts: likes Cherry; dislikes Coffee Fruit. All confirmed gifts

    Jane · Bloomfield Village

The village teacher. She loves reading and writing and dreams of seeing the university library in Maplehill Town.

Where to find Jane: Bloomfield Village, where she teaches. Caring and fond of baking for others.

Gifts: likes White Tulip; dislikes Surf Clam. All confirmed gifts

    Mara · Tidewind Village

Daughter of Barq, Tidewind's head boatsman. She wants to become the best sailor in Tidewind and then the world, and doesn't let setbacks stop her.

Where to find Mara: Running around Tidewind Village. She moves fast, so sprint to catch her.

Gifts: likes Milk; dislikes Carrot. Birthday: Winter 27. All confirmed gifts

    Shirley · Maplehill Town

Musician in an experimental band. Maplehill loves traditional music; Shirley and her bandmates want their avant-garde sound on the town's stage.

Where to find Shirley: Maplehill Town. She is often playing harmonica under a bridge.

    Lorelei · Quarrytop Village

Head of the Quarrytop mining union. Tough and no-nonsense, and hiding something about her link to the mine.

Where to find Lorelei: Quarrytop Village and the mine. You reach Quarrytop later in the story. Her secret is part of the Quarrytop chapter.

    The five bachelors

    Robert · Bloomfield Village

Your childhood best friend. A bit rash, and the reason you leave Bloomfield to see the wider world of Teradea.

Where to find Robert: Bloomfield from the very start; he is in the opening scenes. Only a candidate if you play as Carol.

    Aaron · Tidewind Village

Eldest son of a stranded sailor. His father has been stuck on a remote island for years after sailing out in a storm to help Tidewind, so Aaron helps raise his two younger brothers.

Where to find Aaron: Tidewind, often inside the fenced fishing area. Entering the fishing area costs 300G. Wait until his schedule takes him out, or pay to talk to him there.

Gifts: likes Matsutake Mushroom; dislikes Stone. Birthday: Fall 22. All confirmed gifts

    Bryce · Maplehill Town

Younger son of Maplehill's real-estate tycoon. More open to change than his mother and older brother; he wants new music and art next to Maplehill's traditions.

Where to find Bryce: Maplehill Town. His impatience drives the first Maplehill chapter.

    Sergei · Maplehill Town

A mysterious inventor. Fascinated by the mist over the Forest of Echoes and other strange things.

Where to find Sergei: Maplehill Town, but you only get to know him later in the main story. Usually the last candidate players meet. He likes talking to cats.

Gifts: likes Mountain Lotus; dislikes Crucian Carp. All confirmed gifts

    Hank · Quarrytop Village

An adventurous outsider in Quarrytop. Loves treasure hunting in deep caves and wants to find out what is going on inside the Quarrytop mine.

Where to find Hank: Quarrytop Village and the caves around it. He helps you save Quarrytop, and he's flirtatious from your first meeting.

    How romance works

    • Talk and give gifts every day. Like in other Harvest Moon games, friendship grows from daily conversation and gifts, and heart events trigger as it rises.
    • Candidates are spread out. Because each village has its own farm and the world is large, unlock the warp statues early so a daily visit doesn't eat your whole day.
    • Dating, marriage and children are all in. Steam tracks First Love (getting a lover), The Sound of Wedding Bells (marriage), Welcome to Our Home (a child) and Blessing of the Goddess (your child grows up and writes to you). In launch week only about 1.5% of Steam players had a lover. See all achievements.

    Gifts and birthdays

You don't have to guess forever. Open the Friends tab in the menu and pick a character: each profile has a Likes row and a Dislikes row, and the slots fill in as your friendship grows. Until then they show a question mark. Use the table below to get a head start on the five candidates whose gifts we could confirm.

Confirmed Echoes of Teradea gift preferences. Each entry is checked against two independent guides or the in-game Friends screen.

    • Aaron likes Matsutake Mushrooms and dislikes plain Stone, so don't hand him mining leftovers. Remember that he's often in the paid fishing area.
    • Mara likes plain Milk, and you start the game with a cow. Keep carrots away from her.
    • Carol (your childhood friend if you play as Robert) likes Cherries but not Coffee Fruit.
    • Jane likes White Tulips, which you can pick from your first days in Bloomfield.
    • Sergei likes Mountain Lotus and dislikes Crucian Carp, a river fish you'll catch a lot of early on, so sell those instead.
