How to Make Money in Probably Stolen
Updated
Money in Probably Stolen comes from adding value, not just flipping. Clean water up a grade, ferment berries into wine, chill drinks, and sell into shortages. These are the most reliable routes with the numbers players measured in the demo (compiled by The Exceptional Fisherman), plus what to avoid while rent climbs.
The best money makers
Filtered water to upper-level buyers
Pitcher, water filter, test kit, water sign. Buy basewater, filter it to high-quality.
80 credits of basewater → about 1,975 ml of high-quality → 118 credits plain, about 153 with retail markup and the 20-rep Upper Levels perk (+15%). Roughly a 91% return before filter wear.
Water guide →Master Vintage wine
Winemaking upgrade, then 2 Small berries + basewater + yeast per bottle.
Sells for 175 after 2 days and gains about 5.25 a day after that, with no cap. The community's cost estimate for that recipe is about 80, so about 95 profit before aging.
Wine guide →Gloomberry wine from tap water
Gutterflow on Tap (250 favor) + synthetic yeast + wine bottles.
74 credits a bottle from water worth almost nothing. Contraband, and it doesn't age.
Wine guide →Chill your drinks
A Fridge (100 credits, 2 energy a day).
Chilled +20%, Frozen or Ice cold +25% on beer, soda, Pilk, Puice, Nudka, energy drinks, water rations and ice cream.
Machines →Tier 3 buyers from the display case
350+ credits of one tag in the case (300 for Household), from day 14.
The richest buyers for that tag (station engineer, upper-level private chef, water stockpiler…). Their budget also grows each day.
Display case →Trade the events
Keep stock of water, energy cells and materials.
Water crisis: water ×2 for 3 days. Blackout: energy cells ×2. Meteor shower: materials +50%. Buy in surpluses (water −25%, materials −25%).
Events →Report criminals (Model Citizen)
The Model Citizen starting perk.
+50% credit bonus whenever you report a criminal customer (since Update 049).

What loses money
| Trap | Why |
|---|---|
| Buying from the supply runner | A built-in 50% markup on everything he brings on Sunday. |
| Selling to the Merchant | He buys almost anything but pays 15% less. Fine for junk, not for your best stock. |
| Too many signs in the case | Each one only replaces a random customer; lower ones rarely roll. |
| Overshooting wine quality | Score 7 sells for the same 175 as score 6. |
| Unappraised rare items | Suppliers overstate value; misjudge it and you absorb the cost. |
| Going out every night | One fewer random customer the next day. |
Rent and the spiral
The landlord comes every Sunday and rent rises over time regardless of how your week went. If you fall behind, store attractiveness drops, fewer customers come, revenue falls and the gap widens; the usual way out is riskier deals. Keep enough cash for Sunday before buying expensive stock that could be confiscated or fail inspection. Who shows up on which day is on the customers page.
Frequently asked questions
What is the fastest way to make money in Probably Stolen?
Water trading: filtering cheap basewater into high-quality and selling it to upper-level buyers nearly doubles your money for the cost of a pitcher and filters, and a water crisis doubles prices again.
How do I keep up with rent?
Rent rises every week no matter what. Falling behind lowers store attractiveness, which brings fewer customers, so keep a buffer for Sunday and avoid the supply runner's 50% markup.
Is selling drugs worth it?
Euphoric items can turn a customer into a regular who returns the next day, but Phanta is toxic: one pill with 375+ µl has an 80% chance to nearly kill the buyer, costing you reputation. Without a chem scanner it's a gamble.
