Jambalaya recipe
| Ingredient | What counts | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Onion | Any onion-type: Onion, Red Onion, Leek, Garlic and the other alliums | The ingredient people most often forget |
| Bell pepper | Any bell pepper, green, red or another colour | Just one |
| Grain | Rice, Ancient Rice or Barley | Wheat does not work |
Where to get the ingredients
- Grain: Plain Rice is enough. Ancient Rice adds a star; steamtoday.wiki says its seeds come only from the free Harvest Wisps.
- Onion and bell pepper: Any variety counts for its slot, so use whichever onion or pepper you have the most of.
Buying it and who asks for it
Jambalaya is also sold ready-made, so buy it when a request only needs one. Cook it yourself when the request asks for a starred dish.
- Requests: Townsfolk requests ask for Jambalaya, sometimes with a star rating; one player needed a 1-star version and cooked it from 0-star Ancient Rice, onion and green bell pepper.
- Fire Jambalaya: Plain Jambalaya is the base for Fire Jambalaya (below).
Stars and common mistakes
- 0-star ingredients give a 1-star Jambalaya (r/harvestmoon).
- Ancient Rice adds a star on its own, the quickest way to a 2-star dish without fertilized crops.
- Higher-star rice, onion and pepper from fertilized fields raise it further.
Why it fails
- Leaving out the onion: rice and pepper alone don't make Jambalaya.
- Using wheat or another utensil: you get a Hodgepodge, which you can eat or sell but which doesn't count as Jambalaya. steamtoday also notes the dish uses Frying Pan 2 and a fixed order (onion, pepper, grain).
Fire Jambalaya
Cook plain Jambalaya first, then put the finished dish back in the frying pan with one fire ingredient. Adding all four at once doesn't work.
Fire ingredients that work: Fireball Cabbage, Flame Eggplant, Lava Cabbage, Lava Lettuce, Lava-o'-Lantern. steamtoday.wiki also lists Flametongue, Lava Crayfish and Lava Mosquitofish.
